- ANARTS WW RTTY Contest 1994 Results
- -----------------------------------
-
- The results of the ANARTS 1994 WW RTTY Contest are to hand and
- extracts are published hereunder. The full result sheets will
- be despatched to all contestants, various RTTY Societies and
- Amateur magazines both in Australia and overseas. The posting
- will be dalayed for about a week until all Certificates are
- prepared for inclusion where appropriate, oreoaration of the
- Plaques will probably take another month before final
- despatch.
-
- WORLD PLACE-GETTERS ARE:
- ------------------------
- Classification A: Single Operator
-
- 1. VK2KM 3,765,325 Points Plaque and Certificate
- 2. SV2BFN 1,978,530 Certificate
- 3. JR5JAQ 1,802,920 Certificate
-
- Classification B: Multi Operator
-
- 1. VE3FJB 441,965 Points Plaque and Certificate
- 2. LY1BZB 57,728 Certificate
-
- Classification C: S.W.L.
-
- 1. ONL383 260,790 Points Plaque and Certificate
- 2. ONL4335 118,550 Certificate
- 3. ONL3997 47,244 Certificate
-
-
- In addition:
- ------------
- There were 46 Certificates issued for 1st, 2nd or 3rd places
- in DXCC countries or Areas as specified in the rules.
-
- Matters of interest:
- -------------------
- Subsequent to information provided by N6GG it was found that
- typos had flawed the original issue of the Points Exchange
- Table. This has been revised (1994) and future contestants
- should ensure they use issues so marked.
-
- There were eighteen VKs recorded during the contest, but only
- six of these submitted logs. This is a pity because our
- standing overseas is enhanced when VKs are seen to be
- participating in what after all, is OUR contest.
-
- Rules, Log-Sheet, Summary Sheet and 1994 Exchange Table are
- now available for the 1995 Contest to be held 10-11th June
- 1995, a request to the Contest Manager at Box 93, TOONGABBIE
- NSW 2146 with an SASE will give you a copy of these items
- which you may photocopy as required.
-

- two months. John prefers CW at around 25 kHz up.
-
- EUROPA UPDATE. FR5HG/E continues to be very active,

- will include CW, SSB and RTTY. QSL via F6FNU.
-
- SOUTH GEORGIA ISLAND DXPEDITION UPDATE. Vince, K5VT, has

- WARC band operation. Equipment was put aboard the Research
- Vessel ABEL J in June and is expected to arrive in the
- Falklands around October 8. The team will arrive in the
- Falklands on December 23 and plan to operate the low bands and
- the WARC bands for about five days while awaiting departure

- Miyuki, JG0PBJ, will be on the air from Pohnpei October 1 to
- 10 signing V63KZ and V63MP, respectively. Listen for them on
- CW and SSB on 160 through 10 meters. During their evening
- hours, only CW will be used. Miyuki is a very new DXer, so
- please be patient. QSL via CBA or the JARL bureau.

-
- ANGOLA. Kjell, SM7DZZ, will sign D2ZZ starting September 22

- To: info-hams@ucsd.edu
-
- I need some help here. I have an Icom W21AT whose external power jack no
- longer works. The HT works just fine by battery but does not power up when
- the external power is plugged in. I know that the adapter is ok. I know that
- the problem is with the HT. Anybody out there ever had problems with the
- external power jack failing? Anybody out there have suggestions on what I
- might look at?
-
- What happened? The ht sustained a 4 foot fall onto carpet (it was also in
- it's little soft case). The radio was fine, but the tone card inside was
- kinda jarred loose. So I took the radio apart (via instruction manual
- instructions. However, although I turned off the power, I didn't disconnect
- the power cord. While removing the metal battery lead, I apparently shorted
- the battery terminal.
-
- I found nothing to smell fried, and saw nothing unusually brown or black.
- Is this beyond simple search and repair? I'm having the schematics sent to
- me from home.
-
- Thanks in advance for any help!!

- I ordered two IC2SAT HTs from Tucker last Christmas. UPS lost them and
- made Tucker and me very mad. They had excellent customer service when I
- was working with them to remedy my situation. After UPS settled with
- Tucker, and the 2 HTs were shipped, one of them had a tuning problem on
- RX. I called Tucker and returned it to them. I had a new one within 5

-
- Some of their prices can be beat, so it pays to shop around, but that is

- Subject: VK2WI Weekly News, 25 September, 1994
- To: info-hams@ucsd.edu
-
- This is Michael Corbin VK2PFQ
-
- Late last week I received the final legal account from the Divisional
- Solicitor. The matter was not mentioned on last weeks Broadcast, as
- I was unable to determine the exact information regarding the actual
- amount paid out to date.
-
- In the Annual Report it was stated on page 10 that the amount of
- money spent on all legal advice was $31,494.00. Try as I may,
- I could not reconcile this figure with the accounts paid to the
- Solicitor and the Barrister. This was made doubly difficult as the
- accountant is presently, not in the country. Accordingly, I obtained
- fresh information on these Accounts, independent of that shown in
- the Annual Report. I will not disclose the exact details on this
- medium, the next Annual Report is the place for that. What I will
- reveal, is that an additional account for $16,062.60 has been
- received from the Divisional Solicitor. This was for his work in
- the Tower Case, as well as for advice in the matter of the removal
- of certain persons from membership of the Wireless Institute. This
- gives a total of $47,556.60. The only problem is.... that with the
- information I obtained, the total amount payable now adds up to
- $54,012.97. There is a discrepancy of $6,456.37 which is yet to
- be explained. Hmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!
-
- No matter the discrepancy, the fact remains that this organisation
- has, I believe, spent enough money on legal fees. The Lord only
- knows what it has all cost when you takes into consideration what
- it has cost the "other Side" (sic).....Surely that would put the
- amount up in excess of $60,000......and what did it all
- achieve??????
-
- In my opinion, all this expenditure, EVERY LAST CENT OF IT
- COULD AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED....... Just think
- what we could have built with this money.........what a station
- we could have had here at Dural..or What a....etc etc etc etc.
-
- The Institute has sponsored our expensive legal system enough. I'm
- sure you will all agree. Regrettably, however, to finally reach a
- conclusion which will not see this Division in a state of confusion
- for ever, Corporations Law requires that we refer our circumstances
- to the Court for a decision.
-
- During the week I have had discussions with several of those who
- opposed ratification of the last election. This has caused me to
- place the matter before you once again. I realise it's a bit late
- but I believe we should leave our options open to avoid the cost of
- lengthy litigation, which means, MORE unnecessary legal expense,
- as well as the cost of a new Election.
-
- Our choices are:
-
- 1st option : We seek ratification of the last election. The legal advice
- here seems to indicate (in lay terms) that, if there were no objections,
- the Court would approve this ratification, approve it quickly and with
- minimal cost. If even ONE MEMBER (perhaps someone who did not vote in the
- straw poll) objected to this course of action. The Court would have no
- option other than to order a fresh election in a manner decided by the Court.
-
- 2nd option: We could approach the Court and ask to hold a fresh election;
- Requesting a ruling as to the precise manner in which this election should
- be called and conducted. In lay terms again, the Court must consider
- submissions from the Institute and individual members before setting out
- the exact manner and method for this new election.
-
- Any decision of the Court would, of course, be binding upon all
- members of the Division. The election would be held strictly in
- terms of the direction given by the Court.
-
- Both options will cost money. Option one is the cheapest and the
- cheapest by far. So members we have a dilemma. I need your input
- urgently. My personal choice is obvious ...It is Option One.....
- ratification of the last election and why? .... Because
- $54,012.97 is too much to spend on legal fees. I must advise you
- that to date we have not payed for any advice on the current matter
- concerning the last Election. I believe we all want this matter
- cleared up, as cheaply as possible. I'll say it again... Just imagine
- what we could have achieved for our hobby with that amount of money.
- The mind boggles!
-
- To this end a special Open Forum will be held next Friday night
- 30th September, at 7.00PM at Amateur Radio House, Parramatta to
- decide the issue. Members only of course. Time limit on the meeting
- 10.00PM. Let's put this issue to bed and get on with it, without
- further ado. I for one have had enough, haven't you? It's your last
- chance.....BE THERE!!!!!

- Country members are encouraged to send letters or faxes. Let's hear
- what YOU have to say. My fax number is (02) 626 6066. The Institute
- Fax Number is (02) 633 1525. If you wish to 'phone in your support
- do that as well. If you like, register your preference TODAY at the

- News briefs
- -----------
- Singapore company, Creative Technology, who developed the well-
- known Sound Blaster PC card, has now come up with an affordable
- videophone system that can transfer sound and video signals over
- ordinary telephone lines.
-
- Well almost ... the video frame rate is limited to about 10 to 15
- frames a second and the system gives the audio signal precedence
- over video. "ShareVision", as the system is called, will cost
- about $3,000 in Australia, which includes the portable video
- camera and high speed 928.8 kilobits per second) modem. Who will
- be the first to try it on the Amateur bands.
-
-
- "News briefs" looks at communications news items that appear in
- the mainstream media. Thanks this week go to "The Australian" and
- "The Sydney Morning Herald". If your local or regional paper runs
- an item of interest to Radio Amateurs, why not send a clipping to

-
- It's not just the spectrum, there's the space needed for duplicate
- antennae, radios and controls. You certainly wouldn't want to do this on
- an aircraft, but even on the ground (the place where duplication would
- be essential) the nuisance factor just builds up. Duplicate VOLMET,
- duplicate VOR networks...
-
- As you said, technically possible, but administratively very
- challenging !
-
- I'm assuming that aircraft would not need to go dual mode, that any
- spectrum would be too far away for antenna sharing, and that anyway, a
- clean separation would be needed to allow the old gear to be junked at
- the end of the overlap period, without forcing any refitting of the
- new stuff.
